Match Report | M2s 2-2 Hillhead 3s The M2s got their first point of the season with a stunning late comeback against a youthful Hillhead side that had had a convicing win over the Dyes at the start of the campaign. A disciplined performance from the visitors saw Hillhead struggle to create many clear chances, with M2s threatening on the break when they played their way out from the back. It took a penalty corner drag flick 2 mins from half time to break the deadlock for the home side. A collision late in the 1st half saw Connor unable to continue after the break, but as M2s had only travelled with 11, it meant playing the full 2nd half with only 10 men. This gave Hillhead a clear advantage, and although they enjoyed the majority of possession, tenacious defending from Ross Drummond & George Armstrong, and confidence in possession that was lacking in previous games by the visitors meant there were few saves required from Stephen Egan. Hillhead did double their lead from another penalty corner, but M2s hit back quicky with Jonny Anderson converting from close range. With time running out, a strong run from Anderson that started on the half way line ended with him rounding the keeper and hitting a perfect reverse stick cross for Mike Bunting to deflect in. In the final minute, M2s won their only penalty corner of the game, but Watson failed to find Robertson with the usually reliable routine, and the chance to sneak an unlikely win was lost. |
